Method Plus Truth: What SemiAnalysis's SpaceX Forecast Reveals About Knowledge Activation
SemiAnalysis just proved a concept I've been writing about this week: pair a durable method with durable truth, and you can reason your way to answers nobody could get from either alone.
Their SpaceX 10GW piece is getting shared everywhere for the forecast. Microsoft becomes the largest buyer of SpaceX's compute, SpaceX hits $300B in revenue by 2027. Bold call. But the forecast isn't the interesting part.
How they got there is.
They didn't build one model. They built two, and coupled them.
The first is their Inference Simulator. It's pure method. A roofline and performance model for how frontier AI models actually execute on real silicon, timed operation by operation, validated across accelerators and workloads. It doesn't know a single fact about SpaceX or Microsoft. It just knows how compute performance behaves.
The second is their Tokenomics Model, their Datacenter Model, their Energy Model. This is domain truth. Real contract data. Real site lists. Real turbine supplier capacity. The actual, continuously updated facts of the datacenter industry.
Neither one, alone, gets you the forecast. The simulator without the market data is a physics exercise. The market data without the simulator is a spreadsheet of facts nobody can reason across.
Coupled, something else happens. The method runs against the truth and produces a number nobody could get by reading either in isolation: over $100B a year in revenue per gigawatt, and a structural reason Microsoft has to be the buyer.
This is knowledge management done right. Not storing information. Activating it. A durable method for how to think, coupled with durable, validated truth about your world, run together to produce a real answer instead of a summary.
